![]() None of these are particularly interesting, with the interviewees appearing uneasy or drunk (or both), often with beer bottles in their hands. Each episode is preceded by an additional introduction by Kricfalusi and followed by interviews with the voice actors and animators. His physical appearance doesn't help, with his tight jeans and bowl haircut making him look not unlike a 1970s porn star. Yankovic is funny, but Kricfalusi comes off rather sleazy. Starting off the special features department, the first disc contains separate video introductions by 'Weird Al' Yankovic (?) and John Kricfalusi. There are lots of weird music cues and foley effects throughout that are represented well on this track, and there is not a hint of distortion. The original soundtrack is a little manic, and the dialogue and music come through with appropriate balance and clarity. Otherwise, the picture quality is quite pleasing.Īudio is presented in Dolby Digital stereo with fine results. As a result, they exhibit some ghosting and look faded and dull. ![]() Only the opening sequences are flawed, obviously taken straight from the original series without being remastered or touched up. Black levels are decent, and contrast is excellent. The animation is rendered beautifully, with good brightness and bold colors. Paramount's DVD release gives the episodes a proper transfer, preserving their original fullframe aspect ratio and exhibiting virtually no dirt or artifacts. Aside from this, I found little to laugh at and quite frankly became bored. This episode actually retains a consistently sardonic mood that is enhanced by, not replaced with, the gross-out moments. The unlikely heroes go out of their way to provide her with a new home and food, usually by illegal means. The only episode that boasts any sort of innovation is "Altruists," a genuinely bizarre parody of "The Three Stooges." In this episode, Ren and Stimpy meet a buxom widow who lives in a hole with her, um, "handicapped" son. Disc 1 contains "Naked Beach Frenzy," "Stimpy's Pregnant," and "Altruists." Disc 2 features "Ren Seeks Help," "Fire Dogs 2," and "Onward and Upward." In general, all of these episodes consist of the same brand of crass humor, involving big-breasted chicks, a variety of bodily fluids, and some not-so-subtle gay innuendo between the two main characters (not to mention interspecies sex). While the initial program was aimed primarily at pre-teens, the new version seems to be aimed at 30-year-olds with pre-teen mentalities. Also, in spite of the risqué nature of the new episodes, they are no more sophisticated than the originals. There is no story to engage us, and what little humor can be found is overshadowed by the monotony of the situation. What we are left with is a series of crude gags that quickly becomes repetitive and ultimately leaves us with a bad aftertaste. ![]() There have been several adult-oriented cartoons to reach mainstream success over the years, from "The Simpsons" to "South Park," and although this show exhibits much better animation than the other two, it lacks their clever writing and biting satire. I must say from the beginning that I was never a fan of "The Ren & Stimpy Show," and this new collection has done nothing to change my opinion. All six episodes are now available on DVD from Paramount Home Video. Re-titled "Ren & Stimpy 'Adult Party Cartoon,'" six episodes were filmed but the show was abruptly pulled from the air after only three. ![]() Kricfalusi updated the show in 2003 for Spike TV, adding some decidedly more mature elements to the stories, in hopes of attracting an adult audience. Kids and young adults alike tuned in regularly to see what bizarre and frequently gross mishaps the pair would find themselves in next. Created by John Kricfalusi, the animated program followed the misadventures of a grouchy chihuahua named Ren and his "eeediot" feline sidekick, Stimpy. In 1991, "The Ren & Stimpy Show" first aired on Nickelodeon and went on to become a booming success for the next five years. ![]() Part 48 - Tips, More Tips and Some Backstory Part 44 - Ultimate Cash Cow (9) 100% Omega Part 43 - Ultimate Cash Cow (8) Gold Membership Part 39 - Ultimate Cash Cow (4) Important Details Part 38 - Ultimate Cash Cow (3) Insanity Road System Part 37 - Ultimate Cash Cow (2) Insanity Road System Part 36 - Ultimate Cash Cow (1) New Crazy Ideas Part 35 - Underground Research Base Completed Part 30 - How to Build an Underground City (2 of 2) Part 29 - How to Build an Underground City (1 of 2) Part 25 - How to Unlock Processor Factories Part 24 - The Episode Where Not Much Gets Built Part 20 - Tamrin North Completed (2 of 2) Part 19 - Tamrin North Completed (1 of 2) Part 18 - How to Make Money with Megatowers Part 17 - Traffic Futurisation and ControlNet Part 11 - Acadmey Captial Completed (3 of 3) Part 10 - Academy Capital Completed (2 of 3) Part 9 - Academy Capital Completed (1 of 3) Part 8 - How to use a Megatower as a Highway Entrance Part 5 - How To Build The Arcology Great Work FAST Part 1 - How to Make $10 Million FAST - Cash Cow 2.0! ![]() EA even put a daily cap on the number of credits earned in Arcade mode! You could only earn 1,500 credits daily from Arcade mode, and you'd have to wait 24 hours before you could start earning more!.This system limited game design, since a player could not pick up another player's kit or steal another player's vehicle, and the system could not handle multi-seat vehicles, so there weren't any. ![]() ![]() And to make things even worse, there were calls to regulate video game loot boxes over gambling concerns following the controversy surrounding them in this game. These items are also purchasable with in-game credits. Micro-transactions made a return in April, usable strictly to let players buy cosmetic items.Even after the massive amounts of backlash that led to Disney forcing EA to disable microtransactions, they still won't remove loot boxes, and claimed that microtransactions will return at a future date.Even worse, those two heroes were Luke and Darth Vader, the most iconic characters from the franchise. Without using them, it would have originally taken roughly 40 hours to grind enough credits to unlock each of the two most expensive Heroes (the cost of all Heroes was reduced by about 75% after massive backlash: more tellingly, it was also found to have been reduced by this amount in review copies of the game). This encouraged players to buy more loot boxes. Whenever you die the killcam shows you the Star Cards the other player had.One for standard classes (Trooper, and the most expensive one), one for ships (Starfighter), and one for Heroes. Making things worse is that instead of having one universal kind of loot box, there were three different kinds of boxes. You could only get Star Cards via loot boxes, and since the loot boxes costed real money, the game was the very definition of Pay-To-Win and gambling in games. All multiplayer progression was focused on them. It’s no wonder that it’s called the poster child of AAA pay-to-win games: The entire game was designed around abusing loot boxes as much as possible to the point that they nearly ruined it entirely. All of this was just for EA to put more focus on a particular aspect to the game's multiplayer component. And you have to find all collectibles in a chapter to even get anything. The collectibles you find are pointless, doing nothing more than giving bonus credits. Not to mention, the AI of your campaign companions is rather poor which can make it a pain to get through. It's also just an obvious afterthought, lasting anywhere from four to six hours as it was clearly only put there due to the backlash the first game received for not having it. The story is flawed in that characters usually only talk about what is happening rather than why it is happening or how they feel about it.False advertising: The story, according to trailers and developers, was to be centered around an Imperial Special Ops squad, but three missions into the campaign (not counting the prologue), you and your allies predictably defect to the Rebellion after being betrayed by the Galactic Empire. While they did do the former, it sadly led to the game being pay to win (more on that with BQ #4). EA promised to give players what the first Battlefront didn't do: have content from the prequel trilogy and no season passes or paid DLC.This mainly applies to pre-2019 versions. There is an aural illusion at work: rapping can sound a bit like speechifying, especially if you have a voice as resonant as Chuck D’s. If generations of fans and outsiders have nevertheless yearned, ever since the late 80s, for hip-hop to rediscover its political essence, that is the result of Public Enemy’s lasting legacy, and also the result of a certain amount of wishful thinking. Explicit political commentary has played a consistent but relatively minor role in the genre’s evolution. To generations of listeners, Public Enemy were the ideal vision of a hip-hop group: fiery and politically engaged, marching through the streets to demand change. Fight the Power, the group’s defining track, appeared in the Spike Lee film Do the Right Thing, and Lee shot the music video, which showed the group leading a political march through Brooklyn in April 1989, repeating an all-purpose slogan of resistance: “We’ve got to fight the powers that be.” He was relatively old – 26 – when the group made its debut, and in the boisterous world of hip-hop, Chuck D’s seriousness made him unusual. The group emerged from Long Island, shaped by Chuck D’s commanding voice and militant sensibility. Public Enemy were an unlikely success story – successful enough to change the public perception of what hip-hop was supposed to do, and sound like. Spike Lee (centre) with Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav (left) and Chuck D (right) filming the video for Fight the Power in New York in 1989. And yet, for most of its history, hip-hop has been regarded as the kind of music that you love despite its alleged flaws – a guilty pleasure. It may be the quintessential modern American art form, the country’s greatest cultural contribution to the world. Hip-hop remained proudly unreformed, but it kept seducing listeners. It’s not hard to understand why many concerned listeners and musicians – including Chuck D – have wanted to reshape hip-hop, hoping to transform it into a genre that would be a more unambiguous force for good in the world. ![]() The key to the genre’s continual rise has been its insistence on being, decade after decade, outrageously entertaining. In fact, hip-hop has not always told the truth often, the practice of rapping has seemed less like reporting and more like bullshitting. But as an analysis of the music, it is not particularly insightful, not least because it doesn’t make hip-hop sound like much fun. “The only thing that gives the straight-up facts on how the black youth feels is a rap record.”Īs a defence of hip-hop, this may be effective – a way to push back against all the people who say that rap records were worthless, or even harmful. “Rap is black America’s TV station,” Chuck D told Spin magazine in 1988. Just as Bob Dylan helped popularise the idea that singers should be truth tellers, Public Enemy helped popularise the idea that rappers should be revolutionaries.Ĭhuck D, from Public Enemy, encouraged listeners to think of hip-hop as an authentic reflection of life in some of the US’s toughest neighbourhoods, and as an indispensable chronicle of the African American experience. Starting in the late 80s, Public Enemy honed a form of hip-hop that was militant and incandescently righteous – the group’s records made rapping seem like serious business. T he fake protesters who interrupted the Black Sheep album, complaining about the “ho zone”, reflected the influence of one hip-hop act in particular. “Rap music don’t have to teach you anything.” Hip-hop is entertainment, but more than other genres – more than country, or R&B, or even rock’n’roll – hip-hop has often been asked to provide something greater than mere entertainment. “Nobody else has stereotyped any other particular music as being something that has to teach,” he said. In 1992, in an interview with the Source, for years hip-hop’s most important magazine, Mista Lawnge, the Black Sheep’s resident producer, complained that too many hip-hop acts were rushing to meet the demand for “message”-oriented music. For similar reasons, rappers are eager to engage with their detractors – more than singers, they must worry about social standing, because that standing is what gives them the right, and the credibility, to speak and to be believed. And so rappers spend lots of time explaining who they are, what they’re doing and why they deserve your attention. ![]() ![]() But rappers are more exposed than singers, because their form of expression is more similar to speech. Singers can hide their words – no matter how formulaic or spurious – beneath a tune. ![]() An incomplete uninstallation of a program may cause problems, which is why thorough removal of programs is recommended. We are considering adding the ability to create GPS tracks from within the app, which would eliminate the tedious export-import step. Please note that once you have exported your data it is very simple to get GPX File Editor to open it: either save it to iCloud and import it from within the app (if you have Documents and Desktop syncing enabled just save the file to your desktop) or send the file to yourself via Message, email or AirDrop. Thank you for your feedback! We agree that the flow for importing data from third party apps into GPX File Editor is a bit cumbersome right now, especially since a lot of the run/bike-tracking apps require you to export data through their websites. I look forward to seeing the functionality and features improve! It is a little tricky to get the a gpx file from Strava uploaded to GPXEditor but the tutorials provided were very helpful. This is the answer! You can add or remove points along your route and edit the timing to give a more accurate picture of your activity. I use Strava to track my runs and get so sad when I can’t edit my data. Thank you for your review! And thanks for the feature suggestions, all three have been added to our todo list. Runkeeper doesn’t honor those when uploading tracks not recorded with their app anyways so it is not a crucial feature for me, but for viewing in google earth it would be nice.Īlso not crucial: it would be nice to see track stats in the app. I was able to shift the times point-by-point though, which was a bit tedious.Īnother nice-to-have: right now this app merges tracks with multiple track segments into one track segment. One thing I wish this app had was an ability to shift the time for a whole lot of points all at once to cut out a break. With this app I had no trouble editing a 14 mile run, export the GPX file and replace the track I had originally created with Runkeeper. Runkeeper’s web editing tool craps out with longer runs and I can’t add “new” data points where I lost reception. I have been looking for a way to clean up my Runkeeper tracks.
